Anthropic testing Claude access to bank accounts and financial data
According to BleepingComputer and t3n, AI company Anthropic is testing a new feature called "Claude Money" that has appeared in the iOS app.
A new section called "Money" would let users link their bank accounts directly to the Claude chatbot so it can analyze spending, savings plans, and other financial questions.
A "Get started" button for connecting an account is visible, but reports say it does not yet trigger any action, suggesting the feature is not officially rolled out to most users yet.
It is still unclear which banks will be supported, how the technical connection will work, and whether the feature will even be available outside the United States.
BleepingComputer reports that OpenAI already offers a similar feature in ChatGPT, letting users connect bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts through the service Plaid. OpenAI states that personal data is not used to train its models.
According to t3n, Anthropic already offers some connectors to financial services in the U.S.; a dedicated Money feature would make manually uploading bank statements unnecessary.
WHY IT MATTERS
When chatbots get direct access to bank accounts, people are sharing highly sensitive financial data with an AI system without knowing exactly how securely that data is handled.
WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW
- Check what AI apps can access Before linking a bank account, read exactly what data the app will be able to see. Only connect your account if you genuinely need the feature.
- Don't rush to share financial data Wait until a feature is officially announced and properly tested. New, unfinished features can still have bugs or security gaps.
- Read the AI app's privacy policy Check whether the company states your financial data won't be used to train the AI. Also check how you can disconnect the link later.
- Keep bank alerts turned on Turn on push notifications or texts for account activity from your bank. This way you'll notice quickly if something unusual happens, no matter which app is connected.
